Every Shelf Has a Story
Some things arrive with their story already written.
Others give us only pieces-a maker’s mark, a worn edge, a repair made long ago, or some sort of evidence that someone once thought the object worth keeping.
And some stories begin here.
A skein gets a name. A handful of stones becomes a set of Trailmarks. Fiber becomes cloth. An ordinary object takes a turn somewhere between the workbench and the finished piece.
At The Dusty Talon, those stories matter.
More Than a Name
The names attached to pieces here aren’t simply labels chosen when it’s time to make a listing.
Sometimes the name arrives first.
Sometimes it appears halfway through the work.
Sometimes the finished piece sits around for a while, stubbornly refusing every name offered until the right one finally turns up.
Once it does, a story begins to gather around it.
That story might come from the materials, the colors, something that happened while the piece was being made, an old bit of folklore, a place, a memory-or something considerably harder to explain.
The Artifact Cards
Some pieces from The Dusty Talon leave with an artifact card: a small phsical piece of their story that travels with them.
But a card only has so much room.
The Story Shelf is where the rest can live.
Here you’ll find the longer stories behind named pieces, collections, curious objects and other things that have passed through the Talon.
Some may still be sitting on our shelves.
Some will have gone home with someone else.
The stories don’t have to disappear when they do.
